Certificates of achievement in the early 20th century were real works of art. Recently I found a collection of them on the walls of a country house. This one awarded to William Flatau for 20 years service as the warden of a North London synagogue. These are serving as an inspiration for a capsule for London Denim AW14. An incredible the amount of finished detail on these was completed by hand, without computer, photoshop or illustrator. Very inspirational! This certificate is a case in point of inspiration being taken from many different styles, it is Arthurian, victoriana with a touch of deco. What talented people lived back then.
