Daria Werbowy popped through the door the other day and has been sitting on my desk for the past few days awaiting my attention. She caught it today when I clocked the subtle Nose-ring. Something about September Issues must inspire Vogue Editors to favour facial jewellery – Remembering the controversial Italian Vogue front cover – Which One? – September 2011 when Stella Tennant was shot by Steven Meisel in a Ethal Granger inspired look with a tight laced waist.
Ethal Granger was a completely bonkers “tight lacer” – (A term I learnt from the Harriets Muse guys when they were doing their corset thing in Soho a few years ago) A girl who deliberately tight laces her corset to achieve a smaller waist. The Meisel shoot itself is incredibly inspiring. The constrained, reserved recklessness of the styling is fascinating. To see Tennent’s body pulled, pierced and manipulated pulls my breath away.
I can’t remember British Vogue having facial jewellery before but is a great example of how each of the countries Vogues come at fashion and their readers from entirely different directions.
